Cyril Almeida: Get With the Program, Zardari!

I must admit, I have stopped reading newspapers, and very seldom did I get a chance in the last few months.

As fresh air strikes hit Pakistani land from the American Predators via Afghanistan it’s high time the Pakistan leadership, or people in those positions, take action and do something about the snowballing anti-Pakistan world opinion and the growing American aggression pivoted on the “War on Terror” excuse.

Local writer and critic Cyril Almeida pretty much owned the incompetence of the current leadership in her latest op-ed in DAWN! Here’s a snip,

What is the problem in Afghanistan? In a word: Karzai. Don’t take my word for it, here’s what The New York Times had to say in an Aug 20 editorial: “Afghanistan’s president, Hamid Karzai, must rein in his government’s rampant corruption that has all but driven his people into the hands of the Taliban and criminal warlords.” What then was Asif doing at the side of a man not only discredited in the West but hated by the Pakistan Army. (Cyril Almeida in DAWN)

If we learned anything from the past regime, it’s that we’d take care of our nation’s sensitivities than give into world appeasement.

I am glad that Musharraf left, at least now we can focus on what needs to be focused on…! I leave you with this article and a beautiful cover to Tool’s song Lateralus by Adam Monroe on a piano.
