Afghan male tailors barred from measuring women
KABUL: Male tailors in an Afghan province have been barred from measuring female clients for fittings following a new local ruling that resembles the restrictions the conservative Taleban imposed on the country when in power. The decision was made by a council of Islamic clergymen in northeastern Takhar province recently, governor Abdul Latif Ibrahimi said. “The male tailors have been told to stop measuring women,” Ibrahimi told Reuters by phone on Saturday. “They need to be measured by female tailors.” While many Afghan women have excellent needlework and dressmaking skills, the overwhelming majority of commercial tailors are men. The curbs drew stern criticism from many countries. Violators would have been punished publicly. Ibrahimi did not say what would happen to anyone failing to comply with the new ruling. Return to self… LOL? ‘nough said.
This is good that male tailors have been barred for this. But actually women should think by themselves that it is not right. Well here in Pakistan, it is the flour crisis everywhere, so who wd be thinking abt such barring:

Man… Lemme share a childhood experience.
I was in 8th class and I saw this tailor measuring the bust of a pretty lady. For many days, the whole film would go on in my head, and I was so awed!!! But the scene as was seen in Main Market, Gulberg, was pretty disgusting. Later I came to know that this is how it happens. :s

I believe it is the women who should be given the choice to reject men from measuring their bust. For quite a good amount of reasons.
If there is a male tailor doing a better job than a female tailor, where would the ladies go?
If the women do not feel harassed by the male tailors, then who are we to tell them they are being exploited.
If there is no tailor in town except for a few male ones, it is but natural that women will go to whomever is providing the service.
But, aren’t all Afghans accustomed to seeing women wear flowing, frock like shuttle-cock burkas? Then why the measurements?
