Doomed, But Not According to DAWN

without comments

Simply worded, short and sensible. A synopsis of sorts by Temporal at Baithak. Here is an excerpt,

Today, the former general is eating his mangoes.

The NA has completed its term. Foreign Exchange reserves are at a respectable level. Power has been devolved some. Electronic Media Revolution is in place (despite the temporary teething troubles.) Emergency is to be lifted December 16, 2007 and elections to be held on January 8, 2008.

In a general sense – we and the country both are a little better off today than we were on October 12 in 1999.

Being realistic means we look at everything with a fair eye. People who fail to learn from their past mistakes are doomed to make them again! Are we damning ourselves to the same bullshit we had before Musharraf’s daur? “Is it our death wish?” Asks Temporal.

Where as DAWN is doing it’s part in asking people to submit their resumès or thoughts for the post of the prime minister of Pakistan. Here is an image of that advertisement, and the discussion at All Things Pakistan. An interesting attempt by the DAWN newspaper who needs to fix and modernize their website.

The question that looms on most Pakistani minds is not how, but who, will be our next prime minister? Do we have nothing left in our chambers of governance and power that today we have to ’search’ of a new leader, even if it meant just for a few years? Is this how dire our situation is?
