This is what they wanted: Missile Strike in Tribal Area

There is a report that 12 people died from a missile attack in the Tribal region of Damadola. It is not a surprise, this, after the local Taleban decided in a pact (read negotiations’ news) to run the area using the Sharia law.

The legal maturity of the Sharia code lends a lot of us to believe that there will be widespread suppression and discrimination in human rights. And in the context of that and how they will govern the region/area in the coming years/decades has already been tested with this missile.

This is what they wanted. Someone to knock on their doors for them to reply with the power of their faith.

Jaag, Pakistan, Jaag! Khuda da wasta Jaag!

Old song. Brought some old memories back. Revived a few rusted feelings… It’s time Pakistan woke up!

Jago by Jazba

This is probably the first leftist song I’ve heard in my life.

Another one bites the dust!

After the saddening news about Hashir Munawar’s suicide at LUMS, Pak Tea House shares another story of a cold blooded murder of a Karachiite written by an anonymous Pakistani ex-pat about his uncle 2 years ago. Makes one think about why one would like to stay back in their country when conditions like these ask people to kill themselves, or kill others.

30th April: Where are the judges?

Will this day prove my suspicions right about the angelic new government that was elected on 18th February? I am not counting my chickens before they have hatched, but I have a good feeling I will be right. Nawaz Sharif and Zardari group has gone to Dubai for mashawarat (consultation). The height of national politics.

Good luck Pakistan!

Suicides: A failing that needs identification

Two days ago a young man, Hashir Munawer, committed suicide on Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) campus in Lahore. The news took the entire student fraternity by shock and depression lamenting the sad incident. But opinions were still varied regarding a few decisions and their dire consequences.

A few are of the opinion that no one with complete information about the case should speak or discuss the issue. To some extent they are right, considering it is a sensitive issue and sensitives will be involved. But till when will we stay quiet and see our youth take their own lives? Till when will we stay quiet and see this social circus play it’s games on the people that it lives off?

I think it is time to air thoughts and opinions regarding the issue so that further incidents like this can be avoided. Let’s discuss the parties that were involved one by one:

Negotiations with Taliban: History teaches us nothing?

The Taleban (Wikipedia) have successfully created a new haven in the Federal Administered Tribal Area (FATA) and also have a named organization behind Pakistan Tehrik -e- Taliban or PTT. The Frontier government is in the process of quenching their thirst to being an all out Islamic social system into that region.

Political backscratching: A little who’s who!

[ Also featured as a Guest Post on Teeth Maestro ]

A recent post run by Teeth Maestro on his blog that features another renowned web-activist that goes by the pseudonym of Temporal and writes at Baithak and discusses how a few old faces are reappearing and how they are making sure that their government service’s maligned past is buried and forgotten forever. These two gentlemen write with great authority and research on the political goings-on of Pakistan.

Supreme Court strikes B.A. restriction - Favoring Village Idiots

OK, so a few months back when all the hulla-ballu of standing elections and getting elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan using party’s strength in the electoral vote the question about the authenticity of Asif Ali Zardari’s Bachelor’s of Art degree was thrown into the ring. Then, he was a major contender against Musharraf who could actually pose a threat to his seat.

But as time and tide changed, Asif Ali Zardari was more in the favor of Mushy and the subservient Supreme Court of Pakistan, it was better to strike down the weak filter of BA requirement so that people like Asif Ali Zardari and a thousand more could contest election in the upcoming by-elections and get elected to the National Assembly. AAZ is also hoping to become the next PM.

A modern prince gallops to his fair maiden on a modern steed…!

Prince WilliamPicture a long curvy road flanked by spring blossoms and chirping birds. Now picture a prince galloping down that lane on a white steed and stops blow his love’s terrace (for more clarity, watch Disney’s Enchanted). Now picture that prince being Prince William, son of Prince Charles - Duke of Wales. His modern day steed being a Royal military Chinook and the fair maiden being his girlfriend he flew out to meet, Kate Middleton.

While I can remain cynical of this boyish attempt of William, I seriously don’t give a dime since both of them have nothing to do with Pakistan, and that William is not a Pakistani bureaucrat or a politician ready to diving to the world of corruption and adultery. This doesn’t effect me! I however will use this to create whatever romantic fantasy I can with the little amount of chivalry that I find in myself to identify it with. If only women were more receptive in Pakistan… =/

Go go William!

Fatima Explains

Through a recently discovered blog, I bring to you an article detailing the nitty gritty of the murder of Mir Murtaza Bhutto in Karachi. The reinstatement of Shoaib Suddle brings back those horrific memories of anarchy, lawlessness and bloodshed. Fatima manages to call her fraternal aunt, metaphoric wife of uncle Scar from Disney’s Lion King, “Benazir Zardari.” Which was lovely.
